The Redeemed Christian Church of God was founded in Nigeria, West Africa in 1952 by the Late Pa Josiah Akindayomi. Born into an idol-worshipping family in 1909, he became a Christian after he met members of the then Church Missionary Society' in 1927. He was unlearned, but in a vision he saw strange symbols on a wall, which he painstakingly and diligently copied and then took the copy to relatives who read out the name the "Redeemed Christian Church of God'.
The Lord established a covenant with Pa Akindayomi, similar to the Abrahamic Covenant. The Lord told him that the Church will spread to the ends of the earth and that when the Lord Jesus Christ returns in glory, He would meet this Church still strong. The needs of the Church and the members will be met in an awesome manner if members would serve Him faithfully and obey His word. It is upon this Covenant that the Redeemed Christian Church of God is built.
Pa Akindayomi passed on to glory in 1980 and was succeeded by Bro. Enoch Adejare Adeboye, who holds a doctorate degree in Applied Mathematics and was a professor of Mathematics at the University of Lagos. He is fondly known as "G.O." or "DADDY G.O." and is still the General Overseer of the Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Adeboye, the RCCG is experiencing phenomenal growth in pursuit of the Covenant upon which the church is built.
Today, there are over 5000 Parishes of RCCG worldwide. RCCG is present on six continents except Antartica. There are over 300 parishes in North America. The most phenomenal programs of the RCCG are the Holy Ghost Night, and the Holy Ghost Congress, all-night prayer, worship, healing and miracle services, which take place at the Redemption City' near Logos, Nigeria.
